In the tech world, the new black is still black, and in 2020 it will spread its wings even more in the form of dark mode.
While popular social media apps have a dark mode feature, there are still some of the top apps that have not yet gone dark. We are looking at you, Facebook, WhatsApp and Snapchat!
Twitter and Instagram have a dark mode, and a lot of other apps have begun adding it as a feature – for instance, Facebook’s Messenger app.
Even Android and iOS have turned to this sleek feature that is doing wonders to all those OLED display phones, keeping our smartphones alive while saving a ton of battery life.
Facebook Joins the Dark Side in 2020, Says App Researcher
The year 2020 is said to be when more apps will join the dark side and according to Jane Manchun Wong, app researcher, Facebook is testing a full-on dark mode, and the social media platform has confirmed Wong’s claim. WhatsApp is also testing a softer dark mode (which is a dark grey), and the WABetaInfo community is keeping their eyes peeled on any new beta version that hints at a future release.
Meanwhile, Snapchat is keeping it all a secret, saying to USAToday in an email that they have “Nothing to share on that at this time.” We all want more apps that come with a dark mode since it not only saves a lot of battery, but it also is easier on the eyes. People that have light sensitivity are also thankful for the dark mode.
Let’s all face it, phones look a lot cooler in dark mode, and we saw it very well in the iOS 13 and Android 10 updates. And for the haters that – for some reason – dislike dark mode, we hope the sun flare coming from your screen in the morning will make you reconsider your preferences!
