Luis Perez, a 44-year-old man, is believed to have been involved in the murder that Aransas Pass police believe took place between Jan. 18-21.

U.S. Marshals executed a murder warrant for the Aransas Pass Police Department, based on information provided by the public, and arrested Perez early this morning at a home on the 6500 block of Samba Drive in Corpus Christi.

“This morning’s arrest occurred without incident,” said Aransas Pass’ Asst. Police Chief David Wood. “I believe he was actually found sleeping at his mother’s house.”

Police said Maloney was killed by a gunshot to the head in one of the units of the Rahi Motel in Aransas Pass.

Her body was discovered in an abandoned toolbox not far from the crime scene.

On Friday, acting on information gathered in their investigation, police arrested 41-year-old Jaime Garcia on unrelated weapons and possession charges, but at that time, Garcia was also considered a person of interest in the Maloney case.

Today, he also was charged in connection with Maloney’s murder.

Luis Garza Gonzales also has been arrested and charged in connection to Maloney’s murder.

U.S. Marshals, on behalf of Aransas Pass police, carried out a warrant on raided a home on Verbena Street in Corpus Christi, taking 33-year-old Gonzales into custody.

Marshals confirm that Gonzales is a Texas Syndicate gang member.

Police also believe all 3 suspects met at the Rahi Motel.

Bond for Garcia and Garza Gonzales set at $1 million dollars.

The case will be tried in San Patricio County since that’s where Maloney’s body was found.

Aransas Pass Police say their investigation continues and may lead to further arrests.
