STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA: A mother has reportedly lost custody of her toddler child after a SnapChat video showed her giving him multiple shots of alcohol.
The disturbing video came to light last week and shows the young boy walking up to the mother, who has not been identified, with a bottle of alcohol at their family home, according to KGIN.
The mom then asks, “You want a drink?” while the person filming the incident, reportedly her daughter, encourages her and says, “Do it mom, do it!”
The video subsequently shows the mom pouring two shots of alcohol into the bottle cap and the toddler downing both of them. “That’s my brother, that’s my dude right there, oh hell yeah!” the daughter cheers.
The Stillwater Police Department confirmed they were aware of the video and said they had notified the appropriate agencies because the case was not under their jurisdiction.
After the video went viral, the mother told KGIN during an appearance at the Payne County Courthouse that the Oklahoma Department of Human Services had taken her son. She said it had been a stressful time and insisted she did not pour anything into the cap.
“Never been without him a day in his life,” she said. “Yes, it was bad judgment on my part to even act like I gave him alcohol, but I swear there was none in the cap.”
She also made a similar claim in a Facebook post but seemingly went on to contradict herself in the same post, arguing, “I didn’t know I was being videoed but even so what’s the difference in giving ur child cough syrup, or rinsing their pacifier off with the beer ur drinking??”
Payne County Sheriff Kevin Woodward revealed that his department, the DHS, and the district attorney’s office are working closely on the case to determine if any criminal charges need to be brought against the woman.
“Our investigation is separate from the DHS investigation,” he said. “They do the child welfare part, and we do the criminal part.”
