Bukit Timah has no shortage of chill cafes, but we suppose throwing another one into the mix can’t hurt  especially on busy weekend afternoons. FlagWhite’s name is a play on flat white coffees and the act of raising the white flag (aka surrendering), but we’re pretty sure that defeatist attitude is the opposite of what the business wants to portray.
Located a couple minutes’ walk from Beauty World MRT station, the minimalist space with industrial touches does what cafes aim to do best: serve a solid cuppa, paired with all-day brunch grub and house-made desserts.
In an effort to support its fellow local companies, FlagWhite uses locally-roasted coffee beans and offers hot chocolate and teas from homegrown brands such as Fossa and Pekoe & Imp. Meanwhile, the food it serves is simple but hearty and comforting, with highlights such as crispy garlic parmesan wings, chicken parmigiana, and the signature beef burger sandwiching a sunny side-up egg, bacon, beetroot, cheddar, and BBQ aioli between two brioche buns.
Since its sweets aren’t mass manufactured in a commercial kitchen, you can have a go at cakes like the fluffy double cheesecake, a lemon meringue tart, and a single origin chocolate tart with almond cream.
The menu’s rather limited, but the unpretentious food is worth a visit when you’re in the area, especially if you’re keen to try something new.
FlagWhite is at 106 Jalan Jurong Kechil.
Mon & Wed-Fri 10am-9pm, Sat-Sun 9am-9pm.
