Detroit —  Jack White will obtain an honorary diploma from Wayne State College, the college introduced Thursday.

White, a Detroit native who gained fame with the band “The White Stripes,” will likely be honored in the course of the graduation ceremony at 9 a.m. on Could Three on the Fox Theatre.

White will obtain an honorary physician of humane letters for “his dedication to Detroit and important contributions to the humanities as probably the most prolific and famend artists of the previous 20 years,” the college stated in a information launch.

Born and raised in southwest Detroit, White graduated from Cass Technical Excessive College, labored as an upholsterer and performed in underground bands earlier than founding the critically acclaimed “The White Stripes,” a storage rock duo.
