Idris Elba’s music has impressed a brand new stage present, which is able to premiere on the Manchester Worldwide Competition in England this summer time (Jul19).

Director Kwame Kwei-Armah created the challenge, titled Tree, across the film star and DJ’s Mi Mandela album, and Idris is on board as a producer.

The musical play follows a younger Londoner’s journey house to South Africa following a household tragedy.

Sinead Cusack has signed as much as be part of the solid for the challenge’s debut and a subsequent run at London’s Younger Vic theatre. She can be joined by Christian Bradley, Alfred Enoch and Lucy Briggs-Owen.

Director Kwei-Armah says, “I really feel genuinely privileged to be working with this unbelievable group of actors, dancers and musicians to convey to life our shared imaginative and prescient for Tree, impressed by Idris’s intoxicating Mi Mandela album.

“As a director and as a producer, what excites me most is our try and blur the style traces; Tree locations the viewers, standing, on the centre of the motion – nearly like a membership, or a gig – and on the similar time it takes them on a theatrical journey with a story that emotionally engages.

We held some workshops with Alfie Enoch earlier this 12 months, and the ambiance in that room was fascinating. Now that the fantastic Sinead Cusack has joined us, together with a phenomenally gifted group of multi-disciplined artists, I can’t wait to get into rehearsals and put together to convey that infectious power to audiences at MIF and the Younger Vic later this 12 months.”
