11 Sep – Rumour has it that the China is proposing for all celebrities and staff outside of mainland China to pass a “political review” before they could work in the region.
As reported on Epoch Times, the news was first shared by Sina Entertainment on 7 September, stating that the Communist Party of China (CCP) has officially requested all newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and online media to understand the political background and position of these celebrities and workers before employing them or promoting their work.
However, it is noted that the treatment of celebrities from Taiwan is different than those from Hong Kong and Macau. Following CCP’s decision to boycott the Golden Horse Awards, it was alleged that a lot of Taiwanese celebrities and film workers were unable to work in mainland China.
It is believed that the new rumoured rule will affect many Taiwanese stars who have a big following in mainland China, including Eddie Peng, Shu Qi, and Ethan Ruan.
