Women are now able to drive in Saudi Arabia. The kingdom lifted its ban, in place since 1957, at midnight local time today. In 1990, 47 Saudi women were arrested after driving in protest in the capital, Riyadh. Three other activists at the forefront of the movement — Loujain al-Hathloul, Eman al-Nafjan, and Aziza al-Yousef — were arrested last month and are still being detained.
