The debutant of the world championships in rhythmic gymnastics, 24-year-old Ekaterina Selezneva, won two gold and one bronze medals at the world championships, which are now taking place in Baku. A few days before the start of the competition, Selezneva replaced the four-time world champion Alexandra Soldatova in the Russian national team and eventually showed a brilliant result, becoming a sensation for the championship.
We have a new name – Ekaterina Selezneva, world champion in hoop exercises, – Irina Viner-Usmanova, the head coach of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team, told reporters.

The World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships will end on September 22, but the Russian team has already won ahead of schedule in the medal standings: five gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Together with Selezneva victory points to the team brought gymnasts Arina and Dean Averina. But unlike Ekaterina Selezneva, this is not the first world championship in their career (Arina is a three-time world champion, and Dina is nine-time). Until the end of the competition, several more sets of medals will be played in Baku.
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Dina Averina and Ekaterina Selezneva on gold medals (Selezneva won gold in the hoop exercise, and Averina in the exercises with the ball, clubs, and ribbons). Congratulatory telegrams are published on the Kremlin website. By the way, recently the head of state personally met with the Russian team in rhythmic gymnastics – in the Palace of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner-Usmanova, which opened in Luzhniki.
