US First Lady Melania Trump attended the opening ceremony of the Washington Monument yesterday after reconstruction. The monument, a 169-meter granite obelisk lined with Maryland marble, is one of the symbols of the city.
The attraction was reconstructed for three years, and yesterday was again open to the public. During this time, elevators were upgraded, and the security system was updated. At the event, Melania appeared in a snow-white fitted dress from Prada.
Glad to see the Washington Monument shining again! Thanks to the National Park Service for taking care of many of our national treasures,
– Trump wrote on Instagram.
Together with schoolchildren from the Amidon-Bowen Elementary School, the first lady took part in the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon, as well as examined the renovated rooms and climbed to the observation deck.
From Melania’s hands, children also received gift cards to visit more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including all national parks. Every Kid in the Outdoors is part of Be Be First Lady's initiative to encourage children to become interested in the natural sites of America.
