Meghan Markle with participants in a private breakfast
On September 26, 38-year-old Meghan Markle visited the Women in Public Service private breakfast, which was held as part of royal tour Dukes of Africa. However, pictures from this closed event appeared only the day before – they were published on the official Instagram of Megan and Harry.
At breakfast, the Duchess of Sussex met with social activists, representatives of parliament, health, education and other fields. Together with the participants in the meeting, Meghan Markle talked about gender equality, as well as the rights and freedoms of women in the modern world.Meghan Markle with participants in a private breakfast
The Duchess was especially inspired by the story of one of the guests of the breakfast, Sofia Williams de Bruyne. In 1956 (at that time Sofia was only 18 years old), she convened 20 thousand women to march in protest against the apartheid laws. Today, Williams de Bruyne is the only living leader of this march and a symbol of those who fight for human rights.
In anticipation of this tour, I painfully watched countless abuses against women in South Africa. Therefore, it was important for me to spend this breakfast in order to study the situation. Sitting next to the participants of the breakfast, it became completely clear to me: just hoping for a better future is not enough. The only way forward is “hope in action.” “I am eager to spend the next few days in South Africa, continuing to study, listen and absorb the sustainability and optimism that I felt here,– Megan Markle turned to subscribers from their page with Harry's official Instagram account.
On the eve of the duchess together with son Archie left Cape Town and moved to Johannesburg – her next working visit is planned there. On October 1, the Duchess at a round table will meet with academics and students and talk with them about the difficulties that women face on the way to higher education. On the same day, the Duchess will visit a local school and meet with representatives of the organization that deal with the problems of sexual violence in children's educational institutions.
