Meghan Markle, who, along with her son Archie stayed in South Africa, while Prince Harry went on a visit to Botswana, Angola and Malawi, she made a secret trip to the building of the post office in Cape Town, where in early September Uinen Mrvetyan, a 19-year-old student at the University of Cape Town, was brutally murdered.
The girl wanted to pick up the parcel when she was trapped by one of the employees of the department. As a result, Uyinene was raped, tortured, and was eventually beaten to death by postal scales. Her body was eventually discovered in the settlement of Lingeletu West.

The murder of a student provoked real unrest in South Africa: people took to the streets with calls to stop the unprecedented violence against women.
Megan Markle did not leave indifferent. The Duchess of Sussex wished to visit the place where the student was killed in order to honor her memory. As a sign of solidarity, people left colored ribbons at the post office – the Duchess of Sussex followed this tradition.
On one of the tapes, Megan also left a message in the local language: "We are with you in this situation. Harry and Megan, September 26, 2019."
The Duchess made a private trip to the memorial. The story touched her deeply, and she wanted to personally honor the girl’s memory,
– one of the royal sources told reporters.

According to eyewitnesses, Markle looked very gloomy and thoughtful. Local schoolgirls wanted to take a couple of pictures with her, but they were stopped by the security service that accompanied Megan.
But, it seems, this did not offend the girls, because the visit of the Duchess is much more important, which they consider very important.

We like Megan. It’s very good that she did it. It raises people's awareness, and then everyone around the world will learn about gender-based violence in South Africa and the terrible murder that happened here, at the post office, across the street from our school,
– one of the students shared.
