Two new volcanic fissures opened on Hawaii’s Big Island over the weekend, spewing lava and fumes and forcing more residents to evacuate. This is the 18th fissure to open on the island since the Kilauea volcano erupted May 3 – nearly 2,000 people have been evacuated, and lava from the volcanic vents has gobbled up dozens of homes and vehicles.
