Zaira Wasim’s decision to leave films came as a shock to everyone. In June, the Dangal actress declared on Twitter that she would be quitting Bollywood, as she felt that her religion was being threatened.

Zaira’s last film will be the Sky Is Pink, which will hit the screens on October 11. Priyanka Chopra, who played the role of her mother in the film, opened up about Zaira’s decision to quit Bollywood, to India Today. “There was a hullabulloo around the decision. It’s her personal choice. Who are we to poke our nose in her business? I love her as a person, I wish her the best life. She’s an incredible person. Maybe her journey as an artist is done, something else has started. I feel people need to look at it that way,” she said.
Director Shonali Bose agreed and said, “She is really peaceful and happy now.”

In a detailed post on her Facebook page, Zaira said she realised that she felt that she doesn’t ‘belong’ in Bollywood, though she feels like she fits perfectly.
“Five years ago, I made a decision that changed my life forever. As I stepped my foot in Bollywood, it opened doors of massive popularity for me. I started to become the prime candidate of public attention, I was projected as the gospel of the idea of success and was often identified as a role model for the youth. However, that’s never something that I set out to do or become, especially with regards to my ideas of success and failure, which I had just started to explore and understand,” Zaira had written in the lengthy post.
5 years ago I made a decision that changed my life and today I’m making another one that’ll change my life again and this time for the better Insha’Allah! 🙂 https://t.co/ejgKdViGmD
