Heading to Australia this New Year’s? Brent Anderson’s simple hack can help you enjoy fireworks at Sydney Harbour
[ad_1]
Midnight fireworks are a must for New Year’s Eve and if you can watch them overlooking the Sydney Opera House with the people you love, it’s even better.
That’s how Brent Anderson, regional general manager of South and South East Asia, Tourism Australia rung in the new millennium two decades ago, thanks to some very enterprising friends of his.
Can We Rent Your Apartment?
Anderson, who’s a bit old-school when it comes to New Year’s Eve, says that millennium change from 1999 to 2000 was the best New Year’s Eve he ever spent.
“A friend of mine walked around Kirribilli (which is on the northern side of the harbour) and he did a letter drop randomly around the whole suburb,†recalled Anderson.
“He wrote a letter which basically said, we would like (to rent) your apartment for one night for me and my friends to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Some guy who had a vacant apartment picked up the letter and said ten grand for one night. So we all chipped in (to rent the place). I think it was 400 dollars each, which was quite a bit expensive (at the time), but the apartment was directly across the water from the Sydney Opera House so it was great.â€
“When the fireworks went off, you could feel it in your chest. The entire night was just a perfect setting – good catering, good friends – it was awesome.â€
Anderson, who’s a bit old-school when it comes to New Year’s Eve, says that millennium change from 1999 to 2000 was the best New Year’s Eve he ever spent.
“For me it’s not about going out and getting drunk on champagne. It’s about being with the people that are important to you in life and thanking them for the year.â€

In 2017, Summer Zervos filed a defamation suit against President Donald Trump. Zervos was a contestant on The Apprentice, which aired in 2006. Zervos said that she contacted Trump in 2007 for employment and upon meeting him was subjected to aggressive and non-consensual sexual behaviour. Trump denied the claims and said that Zervos was lying. In March, a New York appeals court rejected Trump’s argument that he is immune from state lawsuits and said that Zervos can proceed with her defamation lawsuit.
