It was proposed to introduce a provision on the family into the Constitution
Andrei Klishas, co-chair of the working group on preparing proposals for amendments to the Constitution, supported the idea of introducing an updated paragraph on the protection of traditional family values - to consolidate the concept of the family as a “union of a man and a woman†in the Basic Law.
The Family Code of the Russian Federation does not define a family. However, in paragraph 1 of Article 12 of the RF IC, it is said that a man and a woman who have reached marriageable age may marry by mutual consent.
The concept of a family is also in the Federal Law "On the Living Wage in the Russian Federation" – these are "persons related by kinship and (or) property, living together and conducting a joint household".
On January 20 of this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a bill to the Duma as amended by the Constitution, which deputies supported unanimously in the first reading. The second reading will take place on February 11th.
