Jean-Paul Gaultier, Valeria and Joseph Prigogine
Yesterday, in Moscow, the premiere of the Jean-Paul Gaultier Fashion Freak Show was held, which was perhaps the most discussed event of the week, because the designer came to present the production personally. He came to the capital from St. Petersburg, where his Russian tour began. Neither MDM, nor any other hall has definitely seen such a diverse audience for a long time.
In the lobby before the start of the show, a show began: office people "in a case" examined mummers and sailors in boas, Russian celebrities, among whom were Valeria, Lolita Milyavskaya, Ekaterina Strizhenova, Victoria Odintsova, Vladimir Pozner and others, sought to break into the press ox for a selfie with Gauthier.
In January of this year, Jean-Paul Gaultier announced that leaves Paris Fashion Week, so the interest in his Fashion Freak Show, which uses many of the legendary outfits created by the fashion designer for his 50 years of creative activity, is now special.
Gauthier managed to meet with reporters a couple of hours before the performance. The conversation did not go without the question of cooperation with Olga Buzova. The news is that the French designer who worked with Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Mylene Farmer, who will now create costumes for the Buzova show, has stirred up the Russian fashion community, provoking a mixed reaction.

Gauthier preferred not to go into details, saying that he did not yet know what outfits he would create, and admitted that he still had to “breathe in Moscow air†and gain inspiration. One of the journalists decided to help the designer get acquainted with Russian trends and presented Gauthier with floral cotton pants for women, saying that these are exactly what Russian women like to wear.
The designer examined the thing with curiosity and, not bewildered, said that he would have made them of striped fabric and added a headdress of feathers – as we see, a real master is able to fix any faux pas.
The Gauthier press reluctantly let go, but the fashion designer, under the insistent calls of the assistants, was forced to hurry backstage, because the show itself was soon to begin. The production of the Fashion Freak Show is a mixture of cabaret, theater and the actual fashion shows themselves. But the main thing is a very sincere story about the life and work of Gauthier himself (the story unfolds not only about the first steps in the profession, but also about first love), skilful irony over modern society and overt sarcasm over the fashion world: what is one parody of Anna Wintour.
Performance Fashion Freak Show
To play this very personal story, Gauthier asked people close and important to him. So, in the videos that accompany the show, the Spanish actress Rossi di Palma starred (she played the school teacher of little Gauthier), the French actress Micheline Prel, whose role in the film "Ladies' Rags" determined the fate of the fashion designer, by his own admission (she got the role of grandmother Gauthier, who also largely influenced his passion for fashion), and the role of the school director was played by a real school friend of Gauthier.
Fashion Freak Show is an invitation to a dream, to a dream come true. Because I was lucky with this – I always wanted to share this luck to show that no matter who you are, any doors are open in front of you. Remaining oneself is perhaps the best thing in the world. And for the world
– Gautier himself presented his production.
And, it seems, the fulfillment of a dream, even if it is someone else's, can really make everyone a little happier. The session was a success, if only because, applauding the scenes of gentle same-sex love, the daring and dramatic striptease and the men dancing the vogue on stilettos, the metropolitan audience itself was a bit loose. At least, even serious men in suits left the audience after the performance, dancing to Get Lucky, a song from the speakers.
