For me, it’s been a love affair that sprang up out of nowhere a couple of winters ago, back when I was stuck inside my house all the time and had just begun making the transition to full-time freelance work. I was having some serious pangs of cabin fever and wanted a break from my usual podcasts and Britney Spears singalongs when suddenly there it was, the solution to all my troubles: a trial subscription offer for Audible.Â
Growing up and well into my 20s, I was always one of those bookworms who absolutely refused to listen to audiobooks. I considered myself a purist (read: a complete and utter snob) and wanted the real deal—the weight of a book in my hands, the feel of its pages underneath my fingers, the look of it on my shelf after I’d finished reading it (the finest trophy if ever there was one). Who would ever pass that up for something digital or on tape, right?
Eh, but screw all that, I thought when I saw that Audible offer, and I signed up on the spot. Cabin fever will make a person do all kinds of whacky things—including get The Shining on audiobook, which is what I did as soon as my Audible membership kicked in—but I must say, of all the impulse purchases I’ve ever made over the years, Audible is easily the best of them.

Why you should try Audible too
As the leading audiobook subscription service out there, Audible makes it easy to listen to books from anywhere, including on iOS (Apple iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad), Android, Sonos, Kindle and Alexa-enabled devices. The service usually costs $14.95 per month, but now and during Prime Day, if you’re a new member, you can get a three-month subscription to Audible for just $15. This is the best deal on Audible that we’ve ever seen, since you’re saving $30 and effectively getting two free months of the service. In short, it’s one of those early Prime Day 2019 deals that feel almost too good to be true.
If you’re a past subscriber, you’re in luck too, because Amazon is running another terrific deal. Former Audible members can get an annual membership up-front for just under $120, which means you’re still saving $30, since an annual membership usually costs $150 a year. As if this wasn’t good enough, Amazon is also throwing in an Echo Dot for less than $1, so you can listen to your books on your new Alexa-enabled device.

What’s so great about this audiobook service
When it comes to Audible, there are literally so many things to love. For starters, the selection. I’ve never had an issue finding books I want, because you’re able to pull from Amazon’s vast catalogue of best-sellers, and most of them have an audiobook version. Secondly, I love how affordable it is. If you’ve ever checked out audiobooks in the past (and I don’t mean at the library), then you’ve probably noticed that they’re hella expensive. We’re talking anywhere from $30-$40 depending on the size of the book, which is way too much money to be spending, even for book lovers.
But with Audible, you get a credit each month which you can use toward an audiobook of your choosing (most audiobooks can be redeemed with just one credit, regardless of their list price). Plus, you get two Audible originals each month and access to audio-guided wellness programs. If you don’t use your credit, it’s no problem, because they roll over each month.
And possibly the best part of all? If you don’t like an audiobook, you can return it at any time—even after you’ve listened to all of it. Seriously. I can’t think of any other service that does that, and it makes me feel like no matter what, I’m always getting my money’s worth. And if you decide to cancel the service, you can still keep and listen to your entire Audible library.

These days, I mostly use Audible for genre fiction and trashy beach reads I don’t want anyone else to know I’m reading. (I can’t very well have Charlaine Harris books chilling next to Infinite Jest, you know? Or wait, on second thought, maybe I should.) But that’s what’s so beautiful about Audible: you can use the service to explore all sorts of fun and interesting new reads that you wouldn’t normally explore or have time for, and you can do it with minimal risk.
Whether you’re a new member or you’re a past subscriber who would like to give Audible another shot, these offer deals can help you really save on the service, and you’re getting such an amazing value. These deals probably won’t stick around post-Prime Day (in fact, we’re almost certain they won’t), so do yourself a favor and take advantage of this deal while you still can.Â
