new Delhi. Asaram has been shocked by the Supreme Court. The court rejected his bail petition in a case of rape. Asaram had sought bail in Surat's crime case in Gujarat. However, during the hearing, the Gujarat government opposed bail. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Gujarat government, said that 10 more witnesses are yet to be recorded in the Surat rape case.
The court dismissed the petition saying that earlier the trial court would continue the trial without being impressed with the first observation of the Gujarat High Court.
Gujarat High Court dismisses bail plea
Asaram has been lodged in jail for Surat rape case. He had approached the Gujarat High Court for bail. But on March 26, the court rejected his petition. After this he approached the Supreme Court for bail.
What is the matter
The matter is 6 years old. Against Asaram and his son Narayan Sai, two sisters of Surat had accused of making misbehavior and wrongful hostage. The victim's younger sister had given solid evidence against Narayan Sai and had identified the opportunity-A-Wardat. The elder sister had filed a case against Asaram. The police filed the case on the basis of statements and evidence of the afflicted sisters. Since then, Asaram is locked in jail.
In another case of misbehavior, Asaram has been serving the sentence
Asaram is currently serving the sentence in another case of rape. Jodhpur court had sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013 in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl, convicting Asaram.
