Government does not have money: Gadkari
Responding to the discussion on the demand of grants from the Road Transport and Highways Ministry in the Lok Sabha, he said that in the last 5 years the government has made 40,000 kilometer highway. During the debate, some members raised the issue of toll being collected throughout the country. On this he said, "Toll can not be closed throughout life … .may be more … I am the bearer of the toll … …" Meanwhile, the Union minister also argued that the toll Through the money collected from those areas, where there is the ability to spend and then it is used on the construction of roads in the rural and hilly areas. Gadkari said clearly, "If you want good service, you have to spend for that. The government does not have the money ………"
Land acquisition biggest obstacle
The Union Minister said the biggest obstacle to land acquisition in the forwarding of the road project was the biggest obstacle. For this, he urged the state governments to find solutions and help in finding a way out. The minister also told that his ministry only starts work on a project when 80% of the land is acquired and this policy is strictly adhered to. He took the name of Bengal and Bihar and said that the acquisition work was slowest in both of these states.
3 lakh crores NPA saved
Nitin Gadkari said that when he took over the ministry in 2014, 403 projects worth Rs 3.85 lakh crore were closed. According to him, the Modi government has started these projects in the last five years and has saved NPAs of Rs 3 lakh crore and now 90% projects are working fast. He also told the House that his Ministry has been working on a new Green Expressway between New Delhi and Mumbai, which would allow this distance to be settled in just 12 hours. According to him, the Green Expressway will pass through highly backward and tribal areas of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra and this will save Rs 16,000 crore on land acquisition.
