new Delhi. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari says that people will have toll if good roads are needed. In response to a question in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Gadkari said that the toll can not be closed throughout life. May be much less. I am the bearer of toll. If you want good services then you will have to pay the price. The government does not have adequate funds.

Roads in the countryside with toll amount: Gadkari

  1. Gadkari was responding to a discussion on the demand for grant for his ministry. He said that in the last 5 years, the government constructed 40 thousand kilometers highway. Some members expressed concerns over the amount of toll raised in different parts of the country. Gadkari said that tolls were taken in those areas where people have the ability to give it. This amount is being used to make roads in rural and hilly areas.

  2. Gadkari also said that the Ministry of Road Transport is working on the scheme of Green Expressway between Delhi and Mumbai. Through this it will be possible to decide the distance from Delhi to Mumbai within 12 hours. It will pass through the backward and tribal areas of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. This will also save Rs 16 thousand crore of land acquisition.

  3. Describing land acquisition as a major problem in road construction, Gadkari said that the state governments should find solutions to it. Without land acquisition of up to 80%, we do not move the project forward. This principle is being followed strictly. The minister said that the pace of acquisition in West Bengal and Bihar is very slow.

  4. Gadkari says that when he took charge in 2014, 403 projects of 3.85 lakh crores were closed. Modi government saved the NPAs of the three lakh crores of banks by starting work on them. Now 90% of the projects are moving fast.
