Thus, this film contains, in the first place, a portrait of the artist when he was young: "ltzhak Perlman: virtuoso of the violin (I am sure I played all the notes)". It is a close account of the formative years of the life and career of Itzhak Perlman, an intimate look at this versatile artist who brings his success and amazing virtuosity with great self-assurance.
His music, his appearances on television, his campaign for the handicapped and his jovial enthusiasm have made him win a particularly affectionate audience. However, he assumes his success with a singular grace and style, and describes himself as basically a family man whose priority in life is his relationship with his family.
This documentary, shot over three years, shows ltzhak Perlman in his New York house with his family, touring Europe with Pinchas Zukerman, playing Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen with the Philarmonia Orchestra of London conducted by Lawrence Foster, in the studio of recording with Vladimir Ashkenazy, recording sonatas by Beethoven, playing a piece by Scott Joplin in Wuppertal with Bruno Canino, playing partitas by Bach in London, playing a trio of Beethoven with Vladimir Ashkenazy and Lynn Haneil at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, and rehearsing, acting and teaching at the Aspen Music School, Colorado, a place that he visited regularly for some time accompanied by his entire family.
The film includes interpretations of the music of Bazzini, Sarasate, Beethoven, Scott iopiin, Wieniawsky, Bach and Vivaidi, some of them live from a stage and in real concert conditions, where this artist shows the best and most revealing of his person .
The film also contains a sequence in which ltzhak Periman remembers how the LaTrucha movie was made, which has become an emblem of that era that we remember so fondly.
It is followed by a sequence made exclusively for this film in which ltzhak Perlman remembers Jacqueline du Pré. It is a tribute to another artist from someone who knew her intimately for many years, who worked with her and who feels a lasting and deep affection for her.
To conduct, the film offers memorable interpretations of two parts of Bach BWV 1004 and BWV 1006 that were recorded live at a public concert in London.
