There are many immigrants who, during their life in Spain, may find themselves with the problem of losing the residence card in an oversight, or having their bag stolen with all the documentation inside.
In these cases, a duplicate of the TIE (Foreigner Identification Card) can be requested at the Police Station or Foreigners Office of our city. The reason for requesting a duplicate can be the loss of the card, the theft or even the deterioration thereof.
In the case of loss or theft of the residence card, it will be mandatory to file a complaint for these reasons in the National Police or Civil Guard since, without this complaint, it is not possible to obtain a new card.
In addition, we must bear in mind that, in order to obtain a duplicate card, it is mandatory to have the passport in force so, if in addition to the card, we have also lost the passport, we must first get a new passport at the Consulate of our country in Spain to be able then, to address foreigners.
If we lose the card abroad, the problem is greater, since the consulates of Spain do not do this kind of procedures. In this case we must obtain a specific visa to return to Spain and then put fingerprints on the new card. These visas have a different process than other visas and may take months.
So, you know, be very careful and try not to lose your documentation.
