new Delhi. Former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit passed away on Saturday afternoon with a cardiac arrest. He has been chief minister of Delhi for three consecutive terms from 1998 to 2013. During this time, there was a time when he was upset with the disease and wanted to quit the post of Chief Minister. But on December 16, 2012, he changed his mind due to circumstances created during the Nirbhaya rape case in Delhi.
Dixit had written in Autobiography, 'Citizen Delhi: My Time, My Life', the family told me that I need to worry about health before everything happens. My resignation was almost certain. At that time there was a year of assembly elections. The party had ample time to find my option.
"Resignation was like leaving the battlefield" during the fearless case.
Sheila Dikshit, when the Congress was thinking of telling the high command about the decision to step down, during the same time, on December 16, 2012, there was a case of rape with a girl in a bus in Delhi. According to Dikshit, I was in bondage after the Nirbhaya incident. My family had seen my tension at that time. He said that as soon as possible, I should leave the post. I felt that leaving the post was like leaving the battlefield at this time. The Center did not want to directly condemn this case. I knew that in this case the opposition will blame my government. Someone had to take responsibility, so I decided to take it on myself.
The incident changed Dixit's mind. He wrote, I immediately asked the administrative officials and police officers to deal strictly with the matter. However, later he joined the Jantar Mantar in the protest against the incident by the masses and also in the protest.
