Smartphone photography has come a long way. The industry has made huge advancements in HDR and Portrait Mode, and we’re now seeing battles between smartphone brands over zoom and low-light photography. There was a time when taking a photo at night with a phone was a pointless exercise. Now, camera sensors have improved and computational photography can do magical things. On the market right now, smartphones like the Honor 20 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10, and OnePlus 7 Pro all boast dedicated camera night modes.

TK Bay from XDA TV recently took a detailed look at the low-light photo-taking abilities of the Honor 20 Pro cameras, especially in relation to the other two devices we just mentioned. Although Honor’s latest flagship has more cameras than the Galaxy S10 and OnePlus 7 Pro, that doesn’t guarantee it’s better than the other two in all regards. Check out the video below to see TK’s full thoughts on this camera comparison.

To really see how the Honor 20 Pro performs, we can compare it to other phones. As mentioned, we’ll also be looking at the Samsung Galaxy S10 and OnePlus 7 Pro in low-light and night shots. All of these devices boast their ability to take better photos in poor lighting and they have dedicated modes for nighttime.

Throughout all of these shots, the Honor 20 Pro seems to perform the best out of the three devices we tested in ultra-low light. In scenarios where there is still some light but it’s not super dark, the Samsung Galaxy S10 seems to perform the best of the three devices. What are your thoughts on the low-light camera quality of these 3 smartphones?

Note: Huawei/Honor have stopped providing official bootloader unlock codes for its devices. Therefore, the bootloaders of their devices cannot be unlocked, which means that users cannot root or install custom ROMs.
