Panaji. Ten of the 15 Congress MLAs joined BJP in Goa on Wednesday. All the MLAs arrived in Delhi on Thursday with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. They will meet party president Amit Shah and executive president JP Nadda. The number of BJP members in the House is now 27.
Among the legislators joining the BJP include Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kawalakar in the Legislative Assembly. When asked about the reason for the MLAs joining the BJP, Sawant said that this step has been raised with the intention of strengthening the party and the purpose of public interest. In the last three months, I felt that the interests of the people of the state are being affected. Now people will not be allowed to suffer anymore. My government is for the farmers and the common people.

He said that no decision has been taken about the coalition partner Goa Forward Party and three Independent MLAs. The decision to include Congress MLAs in BJP has been taken with the consent of the party high command. Congress MLAs have joined the BJP after seeing development in the state. He did not put any condition before the BJP At the same time, Goa's deputy speaker Michael Lobo told that two-thirds of Congress MLAs got separated and joined the BJP. Chandrakant Kawalkar said that due to lack of unity among the Congress MLAs is the reason for joining the BJP. We had the opportunity to form a government in the past, but due to unity among our senior legislators, we could not present a positive claim to form the government. We have joined the BJP in positive thinking. By joining the BJP, better development works will be done in the constituency of 10 MLAs and the youth will get employment. Being a Leader of the Opposition and a legislator, I have the duty to ensure the betterment of my constituency.
Number of Congress MLAs
With 10 rebel MLAs joining the BJP, the number of Congress legislators has decreased to five in the assembly. Congress MLAs included in the BJP include Chandrakant Kavlekar, Eisadar Fernandes, Francis Silvaara, Philip Nerie Rodriguez, Jennifer, Antassio Monceret, Antonio Fernandes, Nilkanth Halkar, Clafacio Dias and Wilfred Disha. At the same time, the survivors of the Congress are former Chief Ministers Digambar Kamat, Luizinho Falerio, Ravi Nayak, Pratap Singh Rane and Alexis Reginaldo.
