Today is World Population Day. 30 years ago, the world's population reached 500 million. From then on, the United Nations started the tradition of celebrating World Population Day. The motive was to control the growing population and solve the problems created by it. World Population Day was started on July 11, on the suggestion of KC Zakaria of Kerala, who was a senior demographer in the World Bank. Zakaria is now 95 years old. He shared his views with Bhaskar on the changes in the population …
Today there is a tremendous increase in the population on the face of a lot of population and there is a lot happening, which is scaring us. The world's biggest problem until 1900 was the infant mortality rate. Then only one in four children could survive. The other problem was that the average age of the people in the world was only 30 years. Medical science made considerable progress between 1900 and 1950. This helped in preventing the deaths of children. Also control the deaths caused by pandemics like TB, cholera, plague.
It was a good thing that a very old problem was being solved, but the new problem of growing population started to arise. India recognized this problem at the same time and officially in 1952 the planning commission considered the growing population to be a problem. India was the first to do so. China launched Single Child Policy to solve the problem. Population imbalance is also a major reason behind many major political, economic and global problems like inequality, terrorism and climate change. The northern part of Earth is endowed, but the lack of population there is a problem.
On the other hand, the southern part is struggling with the lack of resources due to the growing population. That's why the fleeing population in the world is from south to north. Due to the population imbalance on Earth, the population of blondes, blond skin and black hair – brunet and blue-eyed – is falling rapidly in the US, Europe. In the coming time, the combination of black, white and yellow people will be such that people in the world will be mainly brown.
Talking inside India, the migrations here are happening in northern states from the southern states. Marriage decisions have started decreasing on the basis of caste-religion and region. It will be seen further in this. For instance, interviews of intercontost and inter-relation were not included in wedding advertisements in newspapers in 15 years earlier. But today its number has increased rapidly. Caste-religion and region's bondage will be weakened.
