DeChambeau, Reavie, Homa welcome members in Golf-A-Spherical at St. Jude Youngsters's …

While the personal tips from the TOUR players always go a long way with the kids, the chance for the kids to have sounding boards proves to be an open road without end.

“St. Jude has impacted millions of lives and is something that inspires me to want to be a better person every day,” said DeChambeau. “We don’t really get a behind-the-scenes look at all that goes on here. There’s a lot of pain and hardship that they have to go through and persevere. Today, I’ve heard their stories of everything the kids have to go through. It’s a glaring reminder that I don’t have it bad at all, and that I need to be better for the world so that I can be somewhat of a light that they can look up to and see that they can do it to.”

“We can conduct research that no other institution is going to do that is going to change the course for so many of these kids,” said Shadyac. “That’s the impact being made with the help of FedEx and the PGA TOUR.”

Not only is St. Jude a pioneer with cancer research and advancements, but every stride they make is one they pass along to other hospitals and research centers with alike missions.

“With my golf game, I try to do better and get better every day,” said DeChambeau. “On a much, much grander scale, it’s similar to what St. Jude does. They take their research and spread it globally. The hope by doing that is if they can save one kid’s life, maybe they can help save millions of kids’ lives. They are taking their research and sharing it with the world.”

“Research awareness is so important, because if anyone comes up with an idea or a solution, it’s shared the world over,” Reavie said. “So, it’s really important to keep supporting St. Jude. You just never know when an egg will crack and, ideally, cures can be found.”

“Because of its affiliation with the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, this has always been one of my favorite events,” said Homa. “I had a childhood friend diagnosed with cancer, who fought hard in a hospital in L.A. So, what the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does makes me very honored and humbled to be here. It gives the ultimate perspective.”

2019 marks the first World Golf Championships event to ever be contested in Memphis. With 63 of the world’s greatest players fighting for this week’s title, the vibe and enthusiasm is electrifying.

The enthusiasm, however, extends well beyond the confines of TPC Southwind. In fact, the most profound dreams from this week swirl in the hearts and minds of kids 23 miles down the road, hoping for strong performances of their own.

“This day will be one of the highlights of the year for these kids,” Shadyac said. “They will talk to me about this all year long. It’s just a chance for kids to be kids and forget about the fact that they’re sick and going through cancer treatment. On the other end of the spectrum, it seems like it’s a great opportunity for the pros to be kids themselves and spend some time bringing some joy to the kids’ lives.”
