Medaglia D'oro is my favorite sire of all time. My favorite horse that he sired was Songbird, but there were so many greats. I wasn't betting back then, but if I were, I have to believe I would have keyed that horse for $2 in the exacta and wheeled it. Man, what would that have paid? I don't remember, I was 20 when this happened.
I never get tired of watching this race. I boxed the evens in the exacta and put $20-10-10 on the #12. $100 returned over $4200. An amazing race, best day at the track for me by a "longshot".
I had $10 on Sarava, neighbors a block away could tell. I always play $50 on 5 longshots in the Belmont and Derby. My ROI is through the roof. I should have had the exacta too, but didn't play any. I think I had the top 3 horses to win actually.
I LOVED SEEING RACHEL ALEXANDRAS DADDY COMING IN 2ND,AND SARAVA DESERVED TO WIN HE HAD GUTS AND DESIRE AND AN IMPRESSIVE WILL TO WIN. BOB AND VICTOR GOT THERE TRIPLE CROWN 13 YEARS LATER THANKS TO AMERICAN PHAROAH.
I remember watching this when I was just a kid – I loved War Emblem so much; I screamed when he almost went down out of the gate and then I was so excited when he took the lead thinking "he's going to do it anyways!" and when he lost I gave up on ever seeing a Triple Crown horse – 13 years later I saw Pharoah run the Derby and I felt he was the one. Great horses, both
The story is that a horse communicator spoke to Sarava a day or so before the race, and he told her he was a good horse and he was going to show everyone.
If it wasn't for that slow start out of the gate, I believe War Emblem would have won. Catching up to the pack and getting bottled up half way through took too much out of him. By the time he took the lead, he was beginning to run out of gas. Disappointing finish, but a very thrilling call of the race by the great Tom Durkin.Â
I hated this ride on Magic Weisner. Never will understand when jockeys put true closers up closer in a race taking away their explosive late run.
Looked like War Emblem might of went to the lead a little to early, and just did not have a kick when he turned for home.
I won the exacta on this race. Keyed medalia d oro 1st and 2nd
Sarava was never heard from again.

If Espinoza has to think he fucks up the ride the only races he won was wire to wire
I had Medaglia D'oro
I had 2.00 on Sarava ,my co-worker told I was crazy! after the race they did not want to talk to me .2002 year will never gorget!
I love how the guys says "Medaglia d'Oro"

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT WHEN A LONGSHOT WINS

I HEARD WAR EMBLEM LOST A SHOE COMING OUT OF THE GATE. GIGANTIC CONGRATULATIONS TO SARAVA .
I HEARD WAR EMBLEM LOST A SHOE AS HE BROKE FROM THE GATE, I AM NOT ABSOLUTELY SURE.

Worst ride your likely to see, say that jockey got the sack.
13 years later, Victor Espinoza and Bob Baffert would finally get their Triple Crown.
Wise Dan's daddy is in this race!
Nice to see Rachels Daddy finished second

I loved War Emblem and was so disappointed when he lost. What a gorgeous horse, kinda like a black stallion!
