Samsung To Relaunch Improved Galaxy Fold In September

Improvements to the Samsung Galaxy Fold have been made after certain issues caused launch delays. Additional reinforcements and protections were added to the design to increase its durability.  ( Samsung )

The April 22 launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold was delayed due to some clear problems in the smartphone. Now 69 days after the supposed launch, Samsung is announcing a September relaunch of its first foldable smartphone.

Launch Delay

The Samsung Galaxy Fold preorders were sold out on the very first day, but the supposed April 22 launch was indefinitely delayed after reviewers reported some issues such as bulging, screen breakages, and flickering.

Back then, many thought that the ambitious design was not going work out, but now Samsung is announcing a September relaunch of what it is calling the “beginning of an entirely new mobile category.” While there is no specific relaunch date or details about which “select markets” the device will be available, Samsung is now in the stage of conducting final product tests. As for the price, it will still cost $1,980.

“All of us at Samsung appreciate the support and patience we’ve received from Galaxy fans all over the world. Galaxy Fold is a device long in the making, and we’re proud to share it with the world and look forward to bringing it to consumers,” the company states in the press release.

Product Improvements

As mentioned, reviewers experienced various issues with the Galaxy Fold, and the company assures the public that those issues have been dealt with. For instance, several reviewers faced screen issues after mistakenly removing the screen’s Infinity Flex Display, but it has now been extended beyond the bezel to make it clear that it is a part of the display and should not be removed.

Additional reinforcements were also made to protect the phone from external particles that might cause damages to the smartphone’s foldable display, and the top and bottom hinges are now protected with protection caps to increase its durability and rigidity.

More details about the relaunch will be made as it draws near, but for now what is clear is that Samsung is working hard to make the Galaxy Fold a reality.
