BS Yeddyurappa, leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, will take oath of office as Chief Minister of Karnataka on July 26 in the evening.
On Thursday, the Karnataka Legislative Assembly had declared two more Congress MLAs disqualified.
He had also indicated that he would give his decision soon after the remaining MLAs. It is being said that for this reason, the BJP does not want to delay any formation of the government.
Yeddyurappa is going to take over the position of chief minister of the state for the fourth time. Earlier, whenever he took over the post of CM, he could never complete the term.
On Friday morning, he had gone to the temple and he had announced this from the temple itself.
In a tweet, Yeddyurappa wrote, "Following the direction of the party's national president Amit Shah and executive president JP Nadda, I am claiming to form the government by meeting the Governor of Karnataka with his Highness Governor."
He said that he is the leader of the opposition in the Karnataka Assembly now, so there is no need to convene a meeting of the legislature party.
In a letter to the Governor Vajubhai Vala, he claimed to have enough supporters to form a government. Right now, BJP has 105 legislators and it is the largest party in the Assembly.
The Congress has also been tweeted in this regard.
The Congress has written, "Given the Karnataka BJP situation, there is no basis for the claim to form a government."
BJP currently has 105 MLAs and the support of an Independent MLA. Thus the total number becomes 106.
At the same time there are 76 MLAs in the Congress camp On Thursday, the speaker declared three Congress legislators disqualified. In the state, the Congress ally JDS has 37 MLAs. After the three MLAs were disqualified, the total number of legislators in the assembly has decreased from 224 to 221.
Of the 76 Congress MLAs, 13 are still MLAs whose candidate has to decide on the speaker.
On the resignation of three of JDS's 37 MLAs, the Speaker has to decide. Along with all this, two MLAs (Anant Mahesh of Congress and BSP) are those who have not given resignation but have kept themselves absent from the act of trust.
A senior leader told the BBC on condition of anonymity, "It was a decision that was to take center leadership. As we dropped the government of HD Kumaraswamy in the state, it would be strange if we did not present a claim to form a government. Yes, we know that there is some tension between the law-abiding MLAs. "
Speaker Ramesh Kumar on Thursday declared Ramesh Jarkhoni and Mahesh Kumhattalli ineligible. He is considered to be the main performer in Operation Lotus 4.0.
It is believed that the BJP formed the basis of these two Congress leaders to demolish the Congress coalition government.
A BJP leader said on condition of anonymity that on Thursday when the speaker declared three rebel legislators disqualified and even announced him in front of the media late in the evening, then we felt that we would have to move forward. Today's announcement should be seen by linking it with the same context.
Political analysts have been telling the decision to create a stir between the other rebel MLAs for the declaration of three rebel legislators on behalf of the speaker.
During the interaction with the media, Speaker Ramesh Kumar was asked whether the villagers still have the time to take their resignation back.
In response to this question, Ramesh Kumar said, "I know why you are asking these questions and who will benefit from it. I am also upset about the fact that this is a hypothetical question that I can not answer."
Harish Ramaswamy, Professor of Political Science at Dharwad University, says that after the fall of the coalition government the Congress is not interested in taking advantage. It is an attempt to stop BJP from forming a government.
He says, "This is moving towards a constitutional crisis like Presidential rule." Professor Ramaswami says that it is possible that we see mid-term elections in December.
