Police are making 'good progress' with Whaley Bridge water stage

Whaley Bridge evacuees are set to spend their fifth day away from their homes today as firefighters continue their battle to save a crumbling dam by pumping water away from the ‘unstable’ reservoir. This morning workers were seen in the area deploying more sandbags and helping to secure the damaged dam(left). Firefighters are today expected to continue to pump water away from the Toddbrook Reservoir (pictured removing the water yesterday, right) after the area narrowly avoided storms that had been predicted to hit yesterday. Emergency workers have managed to reduce the water levels by half. The map bottom centre shows the area of the town which could be hit if the dam is to burst.
