On September 7, Vikram Lander was supposed to land on the south pole of the moon but lost contact a few minutes before that. He lost contact with the ground station when he was 2.1 away from the lunar surface. If this campaign was successful, India would be the fourth country to achieve success on the moon after the USSR, US and China. Not only this, India would have been the first country to land on the South Pole of the Moon. However, on September 2, Vikram Lander successfully separated from Chandrayaan-2 orbiter.
