new Delhi: Indian Railways has built the world's largest Wi Fi network. Today, on 7 December, the Wi-Fi facility was started at Mahua Milan railway station. With this, the railway has become the largest network providing Wi-Fi at 5500 railway stations. Mahua Milan railway station falls in the East Central Railway zone. Indian Railways has started a major campaign to make all its railway stations digital hubs. Railtel, the undertaking of railways, is watching this arrangement. RailTel has already started Wi-Fi facility at major railway stations across the country.
RailTel is a Mini Ratna PSU of the Ministry of Railways, which is working to provide free high speed WiFi facility. RailTel is working to provide the facility of Wi-Fi at all railway stations across the country. From January 2016 RailTel started offering Wi-Fi facilities. It was first started from the country's financial capital Mumbai. In the last 40 months, railways have now provided wifi facility through RailTel at 5500 railway stations in the country.
It is the intention of the Railways to provide wifi facility at all places except Halt Station. This service is being provided in the name of Rail Wire. In this year, till the month of October, more than one crore fifty lakh users have logged in and taken the free facility of WiFi through rail wire service and through this facility 10242 TB of data has been spent.
RailTel has coordinated with many big companies of the world to set up the world's largest WiFi network at Indian railway stations. In this, RailTel has connected companies like Google Tata Trust PGCIL and for this funding department of Telecom USOF has also funded 200 railway stations. Railway's free wifi facility at major and small railway stations are bridging the digital gap between urban and rural areas of India. Digital service is bridging the gap. Passengers at many railway stations, especially students are taking advantage of this service on this journey. In their waiting time, they also download their study material and study. Vendors are using the service. In their payment transactions, the daily passengers are also learning new skills at the station. Due to getting net and free wifi facility, everyone is getting the benefit of better connectivity at railway stations.
Any person who has a smartphone at a Wi-Fi railway station can connect to it through the railway's rail wire WiFi network. For this, that person will have to go into WiFi mode in their smartphone and select Railwire WiFi network from there, after which the home page of Rail Wire will automatically appear in the smart phone. Only the users have to fill their phone number in it, after this the user will get an OTP message on their same mobile phone and this OTP message will have to be intercepted inside the box. After this, the facility of WiFi will be available through the rail wire service.
According to the Railway Ministry, the railway stations with Wi-Fi will prove to be a great help in presenting a bigger and stronger picture of Digital India, because for this, the railway has set up the world's largest WiFi network. In India and in the coming days, this station is going to provide this facility at every station.
