Lifetime pension for children with Zica virus microcephaly
The benefit was guaranteed thanks to the Provisional Measure signed in September by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, which instituted the pension for children with microcephaly due to Zika virus, born between 2015 and 2018, beneficiaries of the Continuous Benefit Benefit (BPC) – granted by the Ministry of Citizenship.
The pension amount is one minimum wage.
The task force was organized by the Secretariat of the Federal Medical Expertise (SPMF), with the collaboration of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS), which ceded an agency of the capital for the event.
The National Association of Federal Medical Experts (ANMP) congratulated the doctors who made the act possible.
Currently, in Brazil, 3,112 children with microcephaly, born between 2015 and 2018, receive the Continuous Benefit Benefit (BPC) and may already apply for the pension.
“It was an important gesture by the president to help these families. The first step is taken, which is to secure the income. The second is to expand the network of day-care centers and then to accompany these mothers, ensuring medicines, ”according to Citizenship Minister Osmar Terra.
In the opinion of the president of the Union of Mothers of Angels (UMA), Germana Soares, this is a significant advance of the government in the care of these families.
“This is compensation, it is to repair a mistake of all who suffered from it.
The active pursuit to improve the quality of life of these families is eternal, ”says Germana.
