Iraq's Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi has said that the US air strike is a violation of its sovereignty. On the other hand, Qaitib Hezbollah leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis has warned that America will have to bear the consequences of this attack.

What happened in Baghdad?

After the funeral of the militants killed in the US attack on Tuesday, people took to the streets in protest against it. Thousands of people started moving towards the Green Zone area of Baghdad.

In addition to Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, several senior Hezbollah military officers were also involved. The Green Zone of Baghdad is the area where Iraq has many important government offices and foreign embassies.

Qais al-Khazali, head of the Asaib Ahl al-Haq group, said, "The embassy has proved that it is working against Iraq." This embassy is spying on Iraq and promoting sabotage here. ''

The protesters were raising anti-American slogans waving flags of Qaitib Hezbollah and other groups. The protesters started throwing stones at the main entrance of the compound of the US embassy.

Security cameras broke and set fire to empty security posts. The situation worsened when the protesters ripped through the wall and entered the embassy premises.

According to news agency AP, dozens of people were bribed inside the premises to break a gate. They started moving towards the main building of the embassy. After this, the US Army fired tear gas shells so that the crowd could disperse. Stun grenades were also fired at the protesters, according to the news agency Reuters.

It is being said that Iraqi soldiers and security forces came here later. According to Iran-backed Shia military group The Popular Mobilization, 20 protesters have been injured. It is not yet clear whether there were staff inside the embassy at the time of the attack.

According to media reports, US Ambassador Mathew Tuller was safely evacuated. However, sources close to the embassy told the BBC that Mathieu had gone to the US on Christmas holidays before the US bombing on Sunday.

Who has to say about this?

Hours after the protests began, Iraqi Prime Minister Abdul Mahdi asked the protesters to withdraw from the vicinity of the US embassy. Prime Minister Mahdi said, "It is a warning that if there is any kind of attack on the embassies and any loss of foreign representatives is reached, then those who do so will be punished according to the law."

President Trump tweeted, "Iran has killed an American contractor and many people have been injured." We have hit back strongly and always will. Now Iran has systematically attacked the US Embassy in Iraq. He is completely responsible for this. We hope Iraq will use force to protect the embassy.

There has been no immediate response from Iran on this. News website al-Sumariya says that Qaitib Hezbollah has announced a demonstration outside the US embassy until the US ambassador is removed.

Why is Qaitib Hezbollah targeting America?

The United States says that Hezbollah has been continuously attacking its military bases in Iraq. In Iraq, the Allied Security Forces led by America are still engaged in a fight against the Islamic State. In retaliation for Hezbollah's attack, the US bombed many of its bases on Sunday.

Since 2009, the US has declared Qatib Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. With this, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis has been named a global terrorist. America says that this organization is a threat to Iraq's stability and peace.

The US Defense Department says that Qaitib Hezbollah is related to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC's global operation arm Quds Force) and gets many help from Iran.
