Bengaluru Subramanian Swamy, one of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party's firebrand leaders, has nothing to say and no fuss. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP MPs go to know and understand Swamy that his statements have their own arguments and whenever an opportunity comes up and when he is asked for clarification for his statements, Swami often responds with rationality.
Often a subject of controversial statements by Subramanian Swamy, who is often in the limelight, there is often a confluence of humor, heroism and wonderful juices, which are sometimes cheesy and sometimes jokes. There is no such notice when Swami has ever retreated from his words, because he knows the art of bowing down from the depth of each of his statements.
More recently, he has made a bold statement to save India's declining economy. He said that the Reserve Bank of India should print a picture of Lakshmi, the mother goddess of Hindu wealth, adorable on the Indian currency. On seeing this, his statement came in the headlines and social media started becoming mimes. While defending his statement, he had argued that if there is a picture of Lord Ganesha in Indonesian currency, then what can be the objection if printing the image of mother Lakshmi in Indian currency.
It is said that BJP leader Subramanian Swamy is the biggest critic of his own government and sometimes by his own statements, has made his own government stand in the dock. Recently, at an event in Chennai, Subramanian Swamy strongly criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the declining economy.
Swamy has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should make him Finance Minister, because PM himself does not understand economics. Swamy further said that BJP has a good finance minister like him and PM Modi should do this experiment by handing over this responsibility to him.
It is noteworthy that Subramanian Swamy, who was a member of the Planning Commission during the years 1990 and 1991, was the Commerce Minister in the then Prime Minister Chandrasekhar's government. During this period, he laid out the blueprint for economic reforms in India during the tenure of Prime Minister Chandrasekhar, which was later implemented in 1991 by Finance Minister Manmohan Singh under the leadership of the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao.
Not only this, during the year 1990-91, when the country was going through a bad condition and had to be mortgaged to gold to run the daily expenditure of the country, Subramanian Swamy took the license to permit the economy of the country out of the license-permit and inspector raj. A blue print was made, in which multinational companies were also concerned about allowing investment in India.
The changes in Swami's personality reveal that Swami, who was a great opponent of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency, was the closest friend of his son Rajiv Gandhi, with whom Rajiv Gandhi spent hours. Rajiv Gandhi may have been included in Swami's friend list.
But Swami has kept a peg in the court even today to bring his wife Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul Gandhi to jail in the National Herald case. Subramaniam Swamy's mind is behind the strength with which PM Modi convinces Namdars to be on bail in his election rallies today.
Subramanian Swamy, who was one of the most close leaders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was cursed with water by Subramanian Swamy as his finance minister, but time is witness that even though PM Modi never took any action against his master, because Swami himself is said to be one of the favorites of PM Modi.
Swami may have been Modi's favorite, but Modi's political guru, former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, did not like Subramanian Swamy to have a teary eye. Swami was the one who, along with Jayalalithaa, played an important role in demolishing Vajpayee's government by one vote in 1999.
