We are not taking away citizenship but giving it: Sitharaman
Addressing an event in Chennai, he said that we are not taking away the citizenship of anyone but providing it. He further said that the Citizenship Amendment Act is an attempt to provide a better life to the people. We are not taking away citizenship, rather we are granting citizenship to people. Significantly, people are scared of CAA and NRC coming together. They feel that their citizenship is threatened by this law.

More than 4,00,000 Tamils get Indian citizenship
Finance Minister Sitharaman said, 2838 Pakistani refugees, 948 Afghan refugees, 172 Bangladeshi refugees were granted citizenship in the last year, while over 4,00,000 Tamils from Sri Lanka have been granted Indian citizenship from 1964 to 2008. Adnan Sami granted citizenship
The Finance Minister said that 566 Muslims from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan were granted Indian citizenship by 2014. From 2016 to 2018, 391 Afghan Muslims were granted Indian citizenship. Giving the example of singer Adnan Sami, he said that Adnan Sami was granted citizenship during the period of 2016 itself. Apart from him, Taslima Nasreen is another example of this. Such examples prove that all the allegations against us are false.
